During a routine inspection

We found patients were fully involved in decisions relating to their treatment and care. We found patients privacy and dignity was maintained whilst attending the centre. One person said, 'The lady who carried out the ultrasound scan was brilliant, she explained everything really well' and 'It's a fantastic service I would recommend it to anyone.'

Another person said, 'We didn't have to wait for an appointment and we weren't waiting around when we went for the scan. All the staff were very friendly and everything was explained clearly to us. We are going back to the centre to have a 4D scan as we so happy with everything at the early scan.'

People who used the service, staff and visitors were protected against the risks of unsafe or unsuitable premises, for example, there was a buzzer and call system in place which was operated by staff.

We found staff were adequately supported because they received regular training sessions and an annual appraisal.

We found there were systems to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that patients received.

18 December 2012

During a routine inspection

Following the visit to Leeds Screening we spoke with three people who used the service. We were told that the service was good and everything that needed to be explained had been.

One person said, 'It was a very good service, they went through everything at the consultation, all my options, choices and after care. I was very happy.' Another person said, "I was told what to expect, they were really clear and good with me."

One person who used the service also said they felt the radiographer was really good at their job because, "She was the only one who managed to get a picture and I was able to come back on the same day to try again for a picture.' One person told us they had returned to Leeds Screening as a private patient because their previous experience of the service had been so positive.

'We found the service met the needs of the people who used the service. The provider maintained good standards of hygiene in order to minimise any occurrence of infections. Leeds Screening had suitably qualified and sufficient staff to carry out the services provided.'

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We did not contact people who use the service when carrying out this review.

The last time we visited the service in November 2011 we said that the Leeds Screening Centre was not meeting one or more of the essential standards and that improvements were needed.

We found that arrangements were not in place regarding safeguarding and staff training on safeguarding. We could not be assured that all staff were aware of the appropriate procedures. Also staff appraisals had not been carried out. We issued compliance actions and the purpose of this review was to see what action the care provider has taken in order to comply with Regulation 11 and Regulation 23.
