We conducted a remote follow up focused assessment of Forest Dialysis Unit. We assessed quality statements from the safe and effective key questions. We rated the service as Good.
In safe, we found the service detected and mitigated potential risks in the care environment and staff carried out daily safety checks of specialist equipment, including the resuscitation equipment.
The service had enough nursing staff to keep patients safe.
Staff kept up to date with mandatory training. Training compliance overall was 95% across all staff groups.
All eligible staff received meaningful appraisals.
In effective, we found the service worked well across teams and services to support people.
There was input from the local trust and there was a dedicated dietitian for the people who used services.
The service monitored people’s care and treatment to continuously improve it.
Blood results and other key performance indicators were regularly monitored and discussed to optimise patient outcomes.
The service undertook a regular, monthly notes audit and identified areas of noncompliance.
However, the unit was still working to establish a system to record both onsite visits, patient specific visits and reviews.
