Updated 4 December 2024
Date of Assessment: 4 to 30 December 2024. We completed this assessment after receiving concerning information of incidents that had happened within the service. The service is a residential care home providing support to adults of all ages living with dementia and nursing needs. We found 2 breaches in regulation in relation to safe care and treatment and governance. The provider did not always have guidelines for staff to monitor and support people who lived with long term health conditions. Medications were not always accurately counted and stock checked to ensure they were administered as prescribed. Improvements were required for people whose fluids were monitored to maintain their health and well-being and there were inconsistencies and a poor response from staff when people had not met their daily hydration needs. A new electronic care planning system had been developed for the service to record care plans and risk assessments for people. However, the system was still very new and lacked the detailed information staff required to effectively support people. The provider did not have effective governance systems in place to ensure people consistently received safe and effective care and treatment. However, the provider made sure there was continuity of care, including when people moved between different services, and they worked well across teams and services to support people. People were told about their rights around consent, and this was respected. People were treated with kindness, empathy and compassion and staff respected people’s privacy and dignity. The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and staff told us they enjoyed their roles.
In instances where CQC has decided to take civil or criminal enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded.
