Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 12 May 2025

Date of Assessment: 10 June 2025. The service is a residential care home, providing support to adults of all ages living with nursing needs, dementia, mental health conditions and physical disabilities. At the time of our inspection, the service was home to 46 people. The provider had voluntarily suspended new admissions to allow for the full refurbishment of the service. Park House can accommodate a maximum of 68 people.

People were not always fully protected and kept safe. The facilities and equipment failed to effectively meet people’s needs, were not always clean and well-maintained and risks from these had not always been mitigated. People and their relatives were not always involved in assessments and reviews of their needs. Some of these care plans lacked specific details around faith, communication, and specific health needs. Medicines were stored safely, and people received their medicines in a safe way, as prescribed. People were supported to eat and drink to stay healthy.

The management team investigated incidents to inform and improve service delivery. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. Managers made sure staff received training and regular appraisals to maintain competence. The provider had a positive learning culture, where people and their relatives could raise concerns. People were supported by a compassionate and knowledgeable management and staff team, who showed kindness and empathy when engaging with people. The service worked effectively with external health and social care partners, to ensure people were able to access services when they needed them.

Staff made sure people were enabled to give informed consent and decisions were taken in people’s best interests where they did not have capacity. People were confident their privacy and dignity were being upheld. People were encouraged to maintain relationships with family and friends. The provider supported staff wellbeing.

Leaders and staff had a shared vision and culture based on listening, learning and trust. Leaders were visible, knowledgeable and supportive, helping staff develop in their roles. Staff felt supported to give feedback and were treated equally, free from bullying or harassment.

We served warning notices to the provider of Park House on 23 January 2025, for failing to meet the regulations relating to safe care and treatment and good governance.

At this inspection, we found the provider had made improvements and was no longer in breach of regulations.

People's experience of the service

Updated 12 May 2025

Some people told us that their equipment had been personalised and provided to suit their needs. However, one person expressed concerns regarding the availability of the hoist and some battery issues. They felt this had impacted on their care quality. We raised this with the management team in a follow up meeting after our inspection. Assurances were given regarding the availability and maintenance status of manual handling equipment.

The majority of people and their relatives gave positive feedback about the quality of their care. People felt safe with staff, who showed kindness and compassion and treated them as individuals. Some people and their relatives felt they could be more involved in planning their care, and in shaping the service. People described how staff treated them kindly and made sure any personal care was done sensitively, preserving their privacy and dignity. One person said, “I am always given privacy when I’m being washed or changed.”

People and their relatives felt the management and staff team were approachable and understood their needs. One relative told us, “The staff are brilliant, and my family member likes them all.” Another relative told us, “The staff are lovely and make my family member laugh.”
