During a routine inspection

We were only able to speak to one person who had attended the clinic during our inspection. This person told us that they had received good information about the immunisations jabs they required for their travel, the risks and possible side effects of each one, and also their cost. This person told us that, although they had felt a bit nervous about receiving the jab, the nurse had made them feel relaxed and had suggested that they lie down to receive the jab in case they felt faint.

We found that the provider was compliant in all the outcomes we assessed during this inspection and had taken sufficient action to address the two areas of non- compliance in relation to infection control and medicines following our last inspection.

During a routine inspection

We talked to people who had recently used the service and they told us that they had a full consultation with a nurse who asked them about their travel plans and what they intended to do whilst away. They were then given information and advice about what immunisations they needed. One person told us the staff were "Polite, nice and friendly". Another person told us that their GP had advised them what immunisations they needed and the advice from the clinic matched the advice already received from their GP. People told us that they thought the building and consultation rooms looked clean.

The clinic offered general advice about staying healthy and what should be avoided when travelling as well as the immunisations. Staff were aware of what they should do if they suspected anyone had suffered any kind of abuse. Although the building and consultations rooms looked clean there was no infection control risk assessment or policy in place and staff had not received training regarding infection control. The immunisations people had received were recorded on their personal records. A member of staff completed a medication audit monthly but this did not accurately reflect the stock levels of medication. There were effective recruitment procedures in place to ensure the right people were employed. Staff are given the support they needed through training, meetings and supervision. There was a system in place to assess and monitor the quality of the service that was being provided.
