During a routine inspection

People we spoke with told us they were happy with the service they received and that staff were always helpful and kind. However some people said that they felt there were too many agency staff used.

Everyone we spoke with said that the staff explained what they were doing and involved them in decisions about their care, and in reviewing their care plans. People said they were given choices about how their care was delivered and that they felt safe and well cared for. One person said: 'the staff help me do things like cleaning and cooking and are very respectful', and another said: 'the staff are all ok and they help me to do shopping'. These comments were reflective of the comments we received from the majority of people we spoke with.

The provider ensured that they spoke with and involved other health professionals in providing care for people. The staff understood how to keep people safe and understood their responsibilities for reporting concerns if necessary. The staff were supported by the management to understand how to support people through training and supervision, and there was a system in place to effectively respond to people's concerns and complaints.

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people using the service, because some of the people using the service were not all able to tell us their experiences. People who used the service and their families told us they were very happy with the service they received and that staff were very caring. One relative said; "I cannot fault the staff and they have given my daughter great confidence, they are excellent". Another relative said; "the staff are very good at teaching my daughter how to do things for herself and very respectful and welcoming. Another person told us; 'staff are great and the service is well managed with lots of activities for people'.

People who used the service and their relatives we spoke with told us they felt safe with the staff and had no concerns. People told us that staff were always around to support them to do lots of activities including shopping, cooking, going to classes and going on holidays.

All of the people we spoke with and their relatives said they were involved in the planning of their care and had been asked for their views when reviews were carried out.

We reviewed information about five people's care and found that their care needs were being properly planned for. We found that the staff understood people's care needs and how to protect them from risk and harm. We found that staff had adequate training and supervision and were supported by the agency's management to do their job.

People we spoke to told us they were very happy and satisfied with the service. They told us they participated in the spot checks to provide feedback on the quality of the service and were given choices regarding their day to day activities.
