All Inspections

29 November 2013

During a routine inspection

On the day of our inspection there were five people living at the home and we observed the staff interactions and care with two of the people living at the home. We were not able to speak with the majority of people living at the home due to cognitive and communication difficulties. One person used non-verbal communication techniques and appeared to be happy living at the home.

Each person had their own room with shared bathroom facilities and there were a variety of communal areas. The provider carried out the appropriate checks on all new staff prior to employing them at the home. Care plans reflected people's needs and where people were unable to make decisions regarding their care the appropriate people were involved and made best interest decisions. Records were legible and held securely and the home had not received any complaints within the last two years.

During a routine inspection

People were offered choices, which were explained to them by staff, in a way that reflected their capacity to understand.

We saw from looking at files and other documents that people were listened to whatever there means of communication and staff used their skills to communicate.

Relatives and friends were closely involved in care planning as were professionals if required. People and others had been advised about the complaints system that was in place. Person centred planning was important to the people and the staff. One member of staff said "The house was a good place to work" and one of the people said "I am happy".

4 January 2012

During a routine inspection

We were on this occasion unable to communicate well with the people living at the home due to the nature of their support needs. However, some people told us that they were happy living at the home and with the staff who supported them. We observed that the staff appeared to have good relationships and communicated well with the people they supported and we met during our inspection.
