Our current view of the service

Requires improvement

Updated 1 May 2025

Date of Assessment: 13 to 28 May 2025. The service is a residential care home providing care and accommodation to older people including those living with dementia.

This assessment was prompted in part due to concerns raised to CQC and the length of time since the provider registered the service and had not had an inspection.

We found a breach of legal regulations concerning the governance of the service. Governance and oversight systems had not identified concerns we found during this inspection.

The providers procedures for management of medicines had not always been followed and care plans did not always provide clear consistent information. The providers quality monitoring of the service had not always identified areas requiring improvement. Staff had been recruited safely although external professionals and staff felt they may, at times, benefit from additional staff. People, family members and staff could raise concerns. People were protected and kept safe. Staff worked with all agencies involved in people’s care for the best outcomes. Staff monitored people’s health to support healthy living and made sure people understood their care and treatment to enable them to give informed consent. People were involved in decisions about their care and were treated with kindness and compassion.

Staff and people felt supported to give feedback and were treated equally, free from bullying or harassment. The service supported staff wellbeing. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities and said they would recommend working at Inver House. The management team were actively involved in the day to day running of the service.

We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

People's experience of the service

Updated 1 May 2025

People and family members were positive about Inver House. People told us they were able to join a wide variety of activities and were involved in local community events. They were able to welcome visitors who could join them for a meal if they wished to do so. People said they felt safe and were able to make decisions about their care and understood their rights. They described staff as being kind, caring and compassionate and told us they were treated with dignity. People felt staff were busy but did not rush them, although some people told us there may be a delay in call bells being responded to. Some people could not directly tell us about their experience. We used a structured observation tool to assess whether they received good care. This approach showed people were included and listened to and most staff interacted positively with them. People and family members knew who the management team were, felt able to complain and were confident action would be taken if they raised anything.
