Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 24 February 2026

Date of Assessment: 10 March 2026 to 20 March 2026. This is the first assessment for this newly registered service. Therefore, we assessed all quality statements across the safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led key questions. As a result of our assessment, we rated the service good.

Some improvement was needed with risk and medicines management and learning from incidents. Despite this, we did not see these shortfalls had a negative impact on people. Leaders began to make the necessary improvement in these areas at the time of our inspection. There were enough staff to meet people’s assessed needs. Staff were well supported and told us they enjoyed working at Bere Grove. Staff worked with all agencies involved in people’s care for the best outcomes and smooth transitions when moving services.

The care and support provided by the service has led to positive outcomes for people. Staff supported people to access healthcare when needed, and professionals external to the service were positive about their joint working. Staff treated people with kindness and compassion. People received person-centred care and were given choices and control over how they wished to live their life. People received fair and equal care and treatment.

There had been several changes with the management team. This had caused some people and staff to feel unsettled. Although people and staff were mostly positive about the new registered manager, some were still getting used to the changes. Quality assurance checks were undertaken, and these were overall effective in ensuring a safe and high-quality service.

People's experience of the service

Updated 24 February 2026

People and relatives were positive about the quality of people’s care. They felt safe and were fully involved in planning their care and understood their rights. One person told us, “I like living here, I feel safe and happy.” Another said, “I feel safe because I have a nice bedroom and I have all my things around me and staff are wonderful. I love having my friends around me for company too.” People said they received high quality care from staff who treated them as individuals. People and relatives described how staff treated them kindly and with respect. Comments included, “Staff are second to none.”, “Staff are amazing and supportive.” And “Staff are so kind and always there for my relative. I cannot thank them enough for how they care for Mum.”

Some people who lived in the home could not verbally express their views about the service. Therefore, we used our observational tool to understand their experiences. We saw staff supported people, with kindness, dignity and respect.
