During an assessment under our new approach

We assessed Beach Road between 1/4/26 and 1/5/26, with unannounced and out of hours visits on the 1/4/26 and 2/4/26.This was the first assessment for this newly registered service following the change of provider.

We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. At the time of the assessment, four people were receiving regulated activity within this care home.

The home demonstrated care and support that aligned with the principles of Right Care, Right Support and Right Culture. People experienced support which promoted independence, choice and control. Staff understood people’s communication needs and used approaches relevant to each person, to enable people to express themselves. Risks were managed in a way that balanced safety with autonomy, and staff encouraged people to engage in meaningful activities that reflected their preferences.

Care and support were effective and tailored to people’s individual needs which resulted in improved engagement, independence and reduced anxiety for people. Staff worked closely with health and social care professionals to promote people’s wellbeing and achieve positive outcomes. People were supported to live healthier lives, maintain independence and engage in activities that mattered to them. Staff were observed to be kind, patient and compassionate, treating people with dignity and respect involving them in everyday decisions. Families were involved where appropriate and spoke positively about the care provided.

People were protected from avoidable harm and received effective support based on up-to-date guidance. Support was person centred, with care plans reflecting people's needs, strengths and aspirations. The provider worked with health and social care partners to ensure people received coordinated and responsive support.

Leadership and governance were effective, with a culture of openness and learning evident. Audits and oversight systems were in place and continued to develop, and leaders were visible and supportive. Staff felt able to speak up and reported feeling valued and well supported through training, supervision and team meetings.

The provider had strengthened documentation, however further work was ongoing to ensure consistency across all digital records and ensure ongoing learning from incidents and audits. Where improvements were identified, leaders acted promptly to embed changes.
