Our current view of the service

We carried out this announced off-site inspection on 24 July 2026. Due to the practice manager being unavailable on the day of the inspection, part of the inspection was undertaken remotely on 23 July 2026.
Where we carry out an off-site assessment, we undertake a detailed review of the practice risk assessments, policies, staff records and other relevant documents. We gather feedback from patients, staff and stakeholders (where relevant). We carry out a remote visual assessment of the premises and have discussions with staff.
We found the practice had met regulations.
The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks, including infection prevention and control.
Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.
Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.
Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.
Beaufort Dental Health Centre Limited and Beaufort Dental Care is part of PortmanDentex, a dental group provider. The practice is in Burton-on-Trent and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.
There was step-free access to the practice via a portable ramp and car parking spaces available, at the practice. On-street parking was available in the local area, and the practice was located close to local bus routes.
The practice had 3 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 18 staff. We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 2 dentists, 1 dental nurse, and the practice manager. One of the group’s Safety and Quality Specialists was at the inspection, supporting the practice.
The service provides cosmetic treatments, some of which are not in scope of CQC regulation and are not covered in our inspection.
People's experience of the service
Updated

Two weeks before our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us.
We reviewed feedback from a number of sources, including NHS Friends and Family Test (FFT) responses, online comments, internal surveys collected by the practice and CQC questionnaires supplied for the purposes of the inspection. Overall, the feedback provided a positive view of the practice.
We reviewed 23 FFT responses. All respondents rated the service as either 'Very Good' or 'Good', and all said they would recommend the practice.
We also reviewed 5 completed CQC patient questionnaires collected by the practice. Patients consistently scored the practice highly across all areas surveyed, including booking appointments, the cleanliness of the practice, staff professionalism, involvement in decisions about their treatment, receiving clear information and the accessibility of the service. All respondents said they would recommend the practice to their family and friends. The questionnaires also showed that respondents included both newer and longstanding patients, having attended the practice for between 2 years and over 20 years.
Patients commented on the professionalism, friendliness and knowledge of the team. One patient told us,
"I think Beaufort Dental Care practise is exceptional. It takes a lot of hard work to attain the high standard of care received and even harder to sustain that level of care. Every single member of staff provides a great service and I'm sure they will continue to do so. I highly recommend this practise, and I am certain you will arrive at the same conclusion… one of the best in the area."
Other comments included "Professional, friendly, and good communication. Would recommend.", "Excellent team of friendly professionals. Polite and punctual.", "Great customer service and knowledge dentists.", and "Lovely team. A very well polished practice, professional and supportive. Couldn't ask for more."
Patients also highlighted the quality of care they received. Comments included "Always very good with the children and explains everything well to us", "The service was very fast, and the staff are very nice", "We are always happy with the service we receive", "Everyone is friendly and makes you feel welcomed!", and "I can thoroughly recommend this practice without hesitation! I have never felt uncomfortable, not listened to or made to feel anything but welcome, reassuring and in good hands. All staff are exceptional, always helpful and smiling. Well done all."
One patient also commented, "In an emergency the service was first class and can't praise the dentist enough. Well looked after and charged at competitive prices."
We also reviewed recent online feedback. Almost all reviews published during the previous 12 months were positive and reflected similar themes to those identified through patient surveys. The practice told us they monitored online feedback and used it to identify opportunities for learning and service improvement. We saw that staff responded to all comments and, where dissatisfaction had been expressed, they encouraged patients to contact the practice directly to discuss their experience.
