Bluebell House Residential and Nursing Home

is a care home providing accommodation, personal care and nursing support for up to 50 people, specialising in services for older individuals living with dementia. At the time of our assessment, 48 people were using the Home.

This was a planned comprehensive assessment carried out for an unrated service. Feedback from people and their relatives indicated that individuals felt safe and were treated with kindness and respect. Staff demonstrated a good understanding of safeguarding procedures, including how to recognise and report concerns, and appropriate risk assessments were in place to support people’s safety

We observed a calm and relaxed environment, with sufficient staffing in place to meet people’s needs. Interactions between staff and people were warm, patient and person-centred, and relatives were highly complementary about the care provided. One relative told us “They are well looked after by kind friendly people”

People’s needs were assessed prior to admission, and care plans had been rewritten in a person-centred way.

People were appropriately supported with eating and drinking, people using the Home were given choice.

We were informed significant financial investment had recently been made to improve the environment and overall condition of the home. It was evident that work had been undertaken to address key aspects of the environment, with additional plans in place to continue these enhancements.

The home was being managed by a new provider; however, improvements were already evident at the time of their first assessment.

Leadership and governance had improved significantly under the new provider, with stronger quality assurance processes, a developing learning culture, and improved staff morale.

The provider demonstrated a culture of learning. Accidents and incidents were reviewed to identify learning and reduce the risk of reoccurrence, and there was evidence that improvements were made where required. The provider worked with other professionals and maintained communication with relatives, helping to support joined‑up care and positive outcomes for people.

Overall, the provider focused on continuously improving the service, with the management team showing openness, honesty and a commitment to embedding and sustaining positive change.

People's experience of the service

Updated 23 April 2026

People and their relatives described generally positive experiences of the service, particularly in relation to staff support and the approach to wellbeing. Staff reported feeling supported in their roles, with access to breaks during shifts, employee assistance programmes and regular time off, which helped them maintain a healthy work–life balance. This contributed to a positive working environment and supported continuity of care for people.

The provider had invested in enhancing the environment, which contributed to a more comfortable and suitable setting for people living in the home. One relative told us; “It's so much smoother now, and I can see huge and real improvements.”

In addition, people, relatives and staff were given opportunities to share feedback through surveys, and this was used to inform service development plans. This helped ensure people’s views were listened to and improvements reflected their needs and experiences.

Overall, people’s experiences reflected a provider sought to listen, learn and improve, with systems in place to support staff wellbeing, gather feedback and maintain a safe and supportive environment.
