During a routine inspection

The people who use the service told us that they valued the support provided by carers. One individual who utilises a long term placement with a local family enjoys horse riding, supports their carer in preparing Sunday dinner and has taken on college courses in performing arts and hair and beauty. This individual told us that they are 'more independent' and have 'more confidence' in themselves because of the support and care they receive.

An individual who receives day time carer support told us that they enjoy going for walks and shopping with their carer. Both individuals told us that they feel safe with carers and would raise any concerns they had with shared lives social workers or other professionals involved in planning their care. This experience was confirmed via surveys of the views of people who use the service. These opinions confirmed our view that the provider effectively supports and improves their quality of life

Carers we spoke to felt well supported by the shared lives team. One carer told us that when faced with challenges they got 'the right support at the right time.'

We found that carers were recruited based on thorough professional assessment of their aptitudes and potential to provide enabling and safe care. We saw that carers were effectively trained and supported to provide high quality care.
