Grovewood residential home is registered as a care home to provide personal care for older people. The service is able to accommodate a maximum of 32 people. We carried out our on-site assessment on 7th Mar 2024, off site assessment activity started on 8th March 2024 and ended on 14 March 2024. at the time of our inspection 28 people were supported with personal care at the service. We spoke with 5 service users 1 relative, 2 staff, the deputy and the registered manager. We looked at 15 quality statements; Learning culture, Safe systems, pathways and transitions; Safeguarding; Involving people to manage risks, Safe environments, Safe and effective staffing; Infection prevention and control, Medicines optimisation; Shared direction and culture; Capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders; Freedom to speak up, Workforce equality, diversity and inclusion, Governance, management and sustainability, Partnerships and communities and Learning, improvement and innovation. At our last inspection in February 2022 we found breaches to regulation 12 (safe care and treatment) regulation 17 (governance). We found improvements had been made with managing people’s medications, managing risk assessments and improving accuracy of records for governance checks. Staff were well trained and positive about the service and their training needs being met. There were robust systems and processes in place to monitor all aspects of the service, with procedures in place to learn lessons when needed and take action to address any concerns identified through the wide range of checks and audits in place.

People's experience of the service

People felt they received safe care and support, which was provided by staff who were skilled and met their needs. People lived in a safe environment with was suitable for their needs. People and relatives feedback, along with our observations showed that there was a focus on achieving good outcomes for people. People, relatives and staff felt the service was well managed and the management team were approachable. People told us they felt safe, staff knew them well and they felt confident to raise any concerns. Feedback given regarding staff and management’s conduct and attitude was positive throughout the assessment. We spoke with 5 people who use the service and 1 family member. Comments from people overall were positive. Comments included; ‘“It is great. I came in due to lack of mobility and was placed here. It has been great since day one” and “No complaints have come up. I would speak to any of the staff” and “My room is my room. It has all my things in.”
