Date of assessment: 11 March 2026. The Pines is a residential care home providing support to people with a learning disability and/or autistic people.
We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.
People were safe; staff understood and managed risk while supporting people to take part in activities in their local community, balancing choice, independence and safety. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. The organisation was focused on providing staff with relevant, bespoke training and guidance to enable them to provide highly personalised care.
Where restrictions had been introduced to keep people safe, these were continually reviewed to check they remained relevant and proportionate.
Staff managed medicines well and people had regular health checks and medication reviews. External health care professionals told us the service worked in partnership with them to help ensure joined up and consistent care.
The culture of the service was focused on providing support that was individualised and flexible, taking people’s changing needs into account on a daily basis. Staff and managers had shared values which were based on supporting people to have a good day. An internal positive behaviour analyst worked with staff to help them understand each individual’s specific needs.
