Our view of the service
Dates of the assessment were 23 June 2025, 15 July 2025 and 23 July 2025. Aston Manor is a care home providing support to older people living with advanced dementia. The assessment was carried out because the service had previously been rated as requires improvement. We found the provider did not always work well with people to understand and manage risks. We identified people’s needs were not always met in respect of management of their skin integrity, mobility, nutrition and hydration. This had not been identified in audits carried out by the service, putting people at risk of being harmed and their health and wellbeing deteriorating. The provider did not always assess and manage the risk of infection. The provider did not always make sure medicines and treatments were safe and met people’s needs, capacities and preferences. Care plans and risk assessments were not person-centred, and did not always detail how people’s independence, choice and control was promoted. The provider did not always tell people about their rights around consent and did not always respect their rights when delivering care and treatment. The registered manager logged safety events however these were not always thoroughly investigated and reflective reviews were not always carried out to support lessons learnt and improvement. The provider did not always have clear responsibilities, roles, systems of accountability or good governance. The service was in breach of legal regulations in relation to people’s safe care and treatment and good governance.
