Date of Assessment: 22 July to 22 August 2025. The White House Nursing Home provides accommodation and personal care for up to 36 people, some of whom may be living with dementia or have a physical disability. At the time of the assessment 24 people were living at the home.
This assessment was undertaken in part due to concerns received around people’s care and support, safeguarding, staffing, medicines management and closed cultures. We did not find any evidence of these concerns or that people had been placed at risk of harm.
Systems and processes were in place to assess risks to people and ensure they were safeguarded from avoidable harm. The provider learned from accidents and incidents to mitigate future risks. There were enough trained and competent staff to support people. A relative told us, “There is always lots of staff around and talking to the residents. (They are) very attentive in my opinion.” Staff safely administered and managed people’s medicines.
Staff supported people in a kind, caring way and respected their decisions and choices. A staff member said, “I enjoy coming into work, doing my shifts, being able to make a difference to my residents’ lives and ensuring they have the right person-centred care.” People were in control of their care, support and how they lived their lives. Staff encouraged people to be as independent as possible whilst remaining safe. People enjoyed a range of activities in the home. A relative told us, “The activities are great there. When [Person] is up to it, he participates with what he wants.”
The service was well led. Feedback received from people, relatives, staff and a health and social care professional about the service was complimentary and positive. Relatives told us, “It is well organised, I would definitely recommend. The staff are always bright, cheerful and bubbly. I am very happy with what they do,” and, “It is quite a calm atmosphere and I would recommend for anyone who has a relative with dementia. As it is a great place for this, in particular.” The provider had an effective quality assurance process in place which included regular audits. People, relatives and staff were regularly consulted about the quality of the service through regular communication, surveys, meetings and reviews.
