During an assessment of Surgery
The assessment took place on 19th May 2026. This was the first inspection of the service since it registered to provide a regulated activity in June 2023.
The service, CES Medical Tunbridge Wells, is a specialist eye care clinic and surgical centre. It diagnoses and treats a wide range of eye conditions. The service provides care for both NHS and private patients of all ages. It offers procedures such as glaucoma surgery, retinal surgery (including vitrectomy and retinal detachment repair), and corneal transplants.
Between June 2025 and December 2025, CES Medical carried out 163 surgical procedures at the Southborough site. During this period, CES Medical was not the main operator of the service, and the location was not yet fully operational under its management arrangements. Pre-operative and post-operative care was provided from another registered CES Medical location.
From January 2026, the provider began running the service fully at CES Medical Tunbridge Wells site. Since then, it has delivered a high volume of eye care, including 354 cataract surgeries, as well as laser treatments, injections and minor procedures.
Most of this assessment focused on the period from January 2026 onwards, when the provider was fully responsible for the service. Earlier data has been included to give additional context.
We found that the service provides high-quality care. Leaders gave strong direction and maintained effective governance systems, which ensured good oversight of both clinical and operational activity. Staff were skilled, well supported, and engaged in their work. Leaders monitored risks and demonstrated a commitment to continuous improvement, including reviewing care pathways and introducing service developments to enhance patient experience.
