Good

Updated 31 July 2026

Date of Assessment: 12 August to 20 August 2026. Avondale Care Home is a residential home providing residential, nursing, dementia and respite care for older adults aged 65 and over. At the time of our inspection the service was supporting 80 people.

Improvements were found at this assessment and the provider was no longer in breach of this regulation. Management and staff were keen to demonstrate the improvements they had made to the service.

Care plans were clearly written, provided guidance and good examples of how people were supported to take part in day-to-day activities. Staff knew how to identify and respond to changes in people’s needs. Systems to manage risks to people were in place and provided staff with guidance on how to manage risks. The provider had initiatives in place to promote and support people with their health and wellbeing and routinely monitored people’s care and treatment. Documentation around people’s capacity to make decisions was completed in line with the Mental Capacity Act (MCA).

Staff understood their responsibility to report concerns about safety. There were enough safely recruited and trained staff to carry out safe care. The environment met people’s needs and staff managed the risk of infection. The home was clean and free from malodours.

Personalised care was planned through discussions with people and their relatives. The provider worked effectively with external agencies and professionals to ensure people’s needs were met in a planned and timely manner.

Leaders were passionate about delivering high-quality care. Regular meetings were held with staff, including supervision, handovers, and daily briefings. Staff consistently told us they felt supported in their roles.

We observed compassionate and kind care throughout our inspection. Staff told us they enjoyed working at Avondale Care Home and understood the importance of providing care in a person-centred way. The provider had built links with community services and healthcare services such as GPs, physiotherapists, dentists, podiatrist, and opticians.

People's experience of the service

Updated 31 July 2026

People received good standards of care from staff who knew and understood their needs.

Some people were unable to provide feedback about their care. We used a short observational framework for inspection (SOFI) to capture the experience of people were unable to speak with us.

People and their relative’s told us they were safe, and staff were caring and kind. One person said, “I know I’m safe here, just a feeling.” Another person said, “Yes, I feel safe because it is a safe building and staff are kind.”

A relative told us, “Both mypeoplehave dementia and are much safer here than their previous home.”

People felt staff listened to them and were responsive at providing care and meeting their needs. The provider offered a choice of activities and initiatives which included, music, games and quizzes and seated exercise.

The home also offered access to large, well maintained garden areas which were paved and wheelchair friendly.
