Southcrest Nursing Home

Southcrest Nursing Home is registered to provide care and support for up to 40 people. The service can support older people, younger people,and those living with a sensory impairment, physical disability or dementia. At the time of the inspection there were 24 people living at the service.

This unannounced inspection was carried out on 13 and 14 May 2026 to review the quality of care and the services compliance with legal requirements. The previous inspection for this service was November 2019, and the service was rated as requires improvement, with improvements in care records and governance being identified.

People were protected from harm by exceptional governance systems and processes. People received care which was responsive to their individual needs. Staff took time to listen and respond to people and were kind in their interactions. Recruitment procedures were robust and there were enough staff to meet people’s needs including a dedicated activities coordinator who explored new opportunities with people. Staff were supported to carry out training relevant to their roles, with the registered manager having a comprehensive overview of their skill sets and abilities. People’s medicines were managed safely with systems in place to ensure oversight of any concerns which were quickly identified and rectified. The registered manager actively sought feedback from people in the service and staff. People had access to health professionals when needed and the provider had made strong links with the local community. The registered manager together with their management team had made significant improvements to the documentation and oversight of the service and were adapting and improving the service and showed a drive for providing safe, good quality care.

People told us they felt safe and happy living at Southcrest nursing home, they said staff were kind and caring. Most relatives were complimentary about the service, one family member said, “(person) is always kept safe and clean.” Another relative said, “Safety is not an issue.” However, some relatives felt more staff and activities were needed. People told us staff were attentive and people felt involved in their care and support. Where people were nearing the end of their lives, their last wishes were acknowledged, and were carried out as closely as possible to meet the person’s wishes. People’s assessed needs were regularly reviewed, and people’s experiences of care reflected their needs. People received their medicines safely. People were encouraged and supported to make choices. They enjoyed a wide range of freshly prepared food with menus tailored to feedback from people as to what they preferred.People’s rights and individualities were supported through the delivery of care.
