All Inspections

31 May 2013

During a routine inspection

As part of our inspection we spoke with one person using the service on the day of our visit. They were very positive about the service they received and the staff supporting them. The person told us their needs were being met. They said, "I am very happy with the service. Staff don't think of themselves as being on a different level to you. It gives me comfort to come and talk to staff."

As we were only able to speak to one person using the service we gathered evidence of people's experiences by reviewing comment cards and the complaints log. We found people had made positive comments about the service. One person described it as 'understanding' and 'informative'. Another person commented, "I found your service to be of great help to me in every way and I would recommend it to anyone who needed help".

We also interviewed five staff, including the registered manager. Staff were aware of each person's needs and how to work effectively with people using the service. Before people received any care or treatment staff asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes.

There were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs.

There was an effective complaints system available.

People were protected from the risks of unsafe or inappropriate care and treatment because accurate and appropriate records were maintained.

During a routine inspection

As part of our inspection we spoke with two people who were using the service on the day of our visit. Both people were very positive about the services received and staff supporting them. People told us staff treated them with dignity and respect and that their needs were being met.

One person told us, "staff are very good. I am happy with the way they treat me. Things are alright." Another person said, "they have never let me down. Things always work here. You can share your problems. I have only had two key workers and they have both been excellent."

Staff were aware of each person's needs and how to work effectively with people using the service. Members of staff had a good understanding of adult and child protections issues. Each member of staff was aware of their roles and responsibilities and they worked in partnership with other professionals. Staff told us that Hackney DIP was a good place to work. They felt well supported by their managers and were satisfied with the quality and level of training offered to them.
