Our view of the service

Southbourne Beach Care Home is registered to provide care and support for up to 104 people. The service provides residential care for older people, some of whom are living with dementia. This was the first inspection since the transfer of ownership; therefore, we included all the quality statements under each of the five key questions. The inspection took place on the 9 and 11 May 2025. At the time of this inspection, there were 86 people living at the service. People were protected from avoidable harm as risks were identified and assessed, they had access to healthcare when needed. Staff were kind, caring and received training in all aspects of care and support. Safeguarding procedures were robust, and everyone knew how to raise concerns, confident the registered manager would act immediately. People had access to a wide range of activities and pastimes. Nutritional needs were known and met, and the dining experience was enjoyed by many. Staff felt supported, appreciated and were clear on their responsibilities. Care was person centred, and people’s rights were fully respected. The service understood people were individuals and their unique differences were accepted. Staff worked well and had strong working relationships with external health and social care professionals. Governance systems operated effectively; oversight of the service was clear from the registered manager to the provider. The registered manager told us they were proud of their staff team and appreciated their support and in turn staff told us they were a committed, engaged and reliable leader.
