During a routine inspection

We spoke with four people who used the service and one member of staff during our visit. People we spoke with talked positively about the service. One person told us " I like living here, it's better than where I was before, and I am being supported to become a better person." Another person told us "It's been a long time since I have been in any trouble and my addiction is better controlled. I am ready to move on now when I find a permanent place to live."

We looked at the care records of people and although the service did not offer any treatment or therapy to people, it was evident from care records people were supported to access services for people who have a substance misuse addiction.

We observed the environment and found although there were improvements needed the provider did have a planned maintenance schedule in place.

We checked the standard of cleanliness of the premises and found that people who used the service had responsibility for cleaning their rooms and communal areas. The home was in a reasonable state of cleanliness.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

On this occasion we did not talk to people who use the service as we we visited Churchfield Road to follow up on a Warning Notice we served on the provider, in relation to the environment of the home. This was due to us finding at our inspection on the 10th October 2012 that people who use the service, staff and visitors were not protected against the risks of unsafe or unsuitable premises, due to their being inadequate maintenance to the operation of the premises and use of the surrounding grounds.

Our findings from this inspection was that the provider had taken appropriate steps to protect the health, safety and welfare of people who use the service.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

This was a follow up visit to the service to check compliance with the Compliance Action imposed following our inspection on the 13th June 2012. Therefore we did not talk to any people who use the service.

People who use the service, staff and visitors were not protected against the risks of unsafe or unsuitable premises. There was not adequate maintenance to the operation of the premises and use of the surrounding grounds. We have taken enforcement action against the provider for this essential standard to protect the health, safety and welfare of people using this service.
