This is the first inspection for this service. This key question has been rated good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. People told us staff were caring, kind and compassionate and said they trusted staff.

People said, “The carers are very compassionate to [person]” and “Yes, I am happy with the carers, I am grateful to them.”

Staff spoke respectfully, and with fondness, about the people they supported. Staff spoke of how important keeping in touch with people’s relatives was to them as well. They said, “A lot of families do not live close by, so we are the ones who see their family member every day, and we can let them know how their family member is each day” and “The difference we make to their life, there is no feeling like it.”

Treating people as individuals

The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics.

People received care and support that met their individual needs and preferences.

Managers and staff valued people as individuals and demonstrated an understanding of the importance of listening to people and getting to know them. One staff member said, “It’s about getting to know [people] by asking them and taking their leads. Some clients do not always want to talk and that is fine. We have really good conversations, and they all have stories to tell, I love hearing everything they have to say.”

Independence, choice and control

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. All staff we spoke with shared a belief and commitment to helping people maintain and develop their independence and control.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress.

People told us the service was flexible and responsive. Relatives said, “All the care workers are very helpful. We are extremely satisfied. It gives us peace of mind.”

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care. The provider recognised and met the wellbeing needs of staff, with a strong focus on the well-being, support and development of staff. Staff members spoke highly of the management support. They said, “You can approach them with anything, any concerns you have” and “Absolutely, [managers are] all really lovely, you can approach them with anything, any concerns you have. If you are struggling yourself, they will help as much as they can. Very supportive and part of a little family.”

The provider ensured staff were recognised and valued for their work. This included ‘Angel of the quarter’ awards, given to staff members to recognise good practise. The provider also sent ‘value cards’ to staff to recognise good practise or positive actions that demonstrated the company values. Staff said, “Yes, [managers are] incredibly approachable, they do lots of very nice things. We get postcards, thanking you for particular things. There’s ‘Care Angel of the quarter’. They make people feel valued” and “Oh my gosh 100% they are incredible. When you work for a company there is always one special person, however they [managers] are all amazing, there is nothing they wouldn't do for you. They have been so supportive. I feel very honoured and lucky to work for them.”
