Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.
This is the first assessment for this service registered on 23 March 2023. This key question has been rated good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

Kindness, compassion and dignity
Staff treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect. A person and a relative confirmed staff were kind. One person told us, “Staff treat me with dignity and respect. They (staff) come in with a cheery voice, say good morning would you like a cup of tea, they’re really good, very upbeat, when I feel down, they say come on you, they’ve been fantastic.” A relative explained how staff treat their family member well and with respect by the way they speak to them which was in a way they respond well to.
Treating people as individuals
Staff treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics. Staff we spoke with knew people well and could tell us about their life stories and histories. ‘My story’ and ‘What you need to know and do to respect my lifestyle choices’ was documented in people’s care and support plans. Information included, but not limited to, living arrangements, family and important relationships, how I like to live my life, places and events that are important and religious and cultural preferences.
Independence, choice and control
The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. Managers provided numerous examples of people supported by HAB Support Ltd achieving positive outcomes. The relative we spoke with described how their loved one’s wellbeing had improved and said, “Staff do a fantastic job we are far more forward than we were 12 months ago, staff have improved [persons] lifestyle otherwise they would be in bed and not want to get out.”
Responding to people’s immediate needs
The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress. People were supported by staff who knew them well. In relation to whether staff respond to people if they need anything. The person told us, “Staff respond very quick and very promptly.”The relative said, “They (staff) are with person all the time, they (staff) do not leave them, if [person] says I need a drink, they’re there they’d get them a drink, they don’t leave their side it’s all about [person] first and foremost.”
Workforce wellbeing and enablement
The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff, and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care. Staff were supported with training and, qualification and career development. One staff member said, “If we want further training or development, the management team support us with this.” Team meetings and supervisions were held. Staff told us they felt supported and valued and spoke positively about the support the management team provided. One staff member said, “I consider [Registered manager name] and [deputy manager name] to be amazing, they are passionate, approachable and as well as having the people we support at the focus they care about their staff.” Staff were recognised for their hard work and summer, and Christmas parties were held for all staff to come together. This was at the providers expense. One staff member said, “We (staff) really appreciate this.”
