All Inspections

13 June 2013

During a routine inspection

People living at The Old Maltings occupied their own small flat within the building and each had signed a tenancy agreement. People were provided with information before they decided to enter into any agreement. This enabled people to make an informed choice and understand exactly how support would be provided.

We looked at six care plans that clearly explained how a person preferred to be supported. We saw information about the choices that people using the service had made, showing people were fully consulted at every stage of their care and support.

People living at The Old Maltings told us that following some changes to the catering arrangements, meals were now very good and people showed us the menu choices they had. On the day of our inspection two people had just enjoyed their lunch and they told us they were happy with arrangements around meal times.

Staff files clearly showed that recruitment practices were appropriate and contained references, background checks plus interview information, showing how new members of staff had been selected. This supported the safety and wellbeing of people using the service.

There was a clear complaints procedure that staff followed in the event of any complaints being received. Although none had been received, staff were aware of the processes to follow. People told us they discussed any worries directly with staff who were always available when needed.

17 October 2012

During a routine inspection

During our inspection of 17 October 2012 people told us they were happy living at The Old Maltings, one person we spoke with told us, 'It's like heaven, I wish I had moved here years ago". One visitor who we spoke with told us, 'It's a very happy and relaxed atmosphere here, everybody mucks in and helps out. It's a nice place to visit'.

We examined people's care records, which demonstrated to us a clear understanding of people's individual needs. Evidence was also seen of people being involved in the planning of their own care from the day of taking up residence at The Old Maltings.

Care records examined were seen to provide detailed information to staff so that they could help people meet their care needs.

Systems were in place to safeguard vulnerable people who used the service from abuse.

Staff we spoke with told us they felt supported by senior management by way of appropriate training and involvement in the day-to-day running of the home.

Systems were seen to be in place to continually monitor the quality of service ensuring people received safe and appropriate care and that their views were actively taken into account.
