5 December 2012

During a routine inspection

During our visit on 5 December 2012, we spoke with three relatives out of the 14 people who received care from the service. Relatives said that the staff were very caring and took time to protect the dignity of the person receiving the care.

We found that there was a robust care plan system in place consisting of an initial assessment, a care plan and a number of risk assessments. The initial assessment was agreed with the person or their family and this formed the basis of the care plan.

All 10 staff received safeguarding training as part of the moving and handling module and others who were completing recognised courses such as National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) in Care also covered this subject

Care staff employed by the service had been subject to a robust recruitment process to check their there background and employment history before they commenced work.

All three staff we spoke with said they were happy in their work and felt supported by the management team. They were always able to contact someone in the event of an emergency and seek advice or get help.

During our visit we saw questionnaires that had been sent to people using the service in May 2012. All of the responses were positive, scoring in the good or excellent range. One person had written "I find the service has been excellent and very accommodating to our needs..."

16, 20 February 2011

During a routine inspection

We made a visit to the office premises on 16 February 2011 and visited three people in their own homes on the 20 February 2011.

It was clear from the way that care plans were written that people using the service were encouraged to maintain their independence and do as much for themselves as possible. People told us that staff were flexible and would alter the agreed times of a call if it was needed. One person said of the member of staff who made the initial assessment of needs 'she kept asking me how I liked things done and she wrote it all down'.

One person said of her carer she,' knows exactly what I like, but if someone different comes they can look at the file.' This told us that staff used the care files as a working document and referred to them appropriately.

We spoke with two people who were having meals prepared for them. Both were happy with what was provided. People also told us that the staff were kind and treated them properly.

People we spoke to told us that they would contact the manager if they had a complaint. One person told us she had rung up when she believed a carer was late but it had been her mistake as she had forgotten the time had altered.
