Our view of the service

Date of assessment:30 June 2025, 9 July 2025 and 22 July 2025. This assessment was carried out in response to information we had received about the service. Althorpe Residential Home provides care and support for up to 20 older people some of whom have a dementia related condition. There were 13 people living at the service at the time of the inspection. At the time of the assessment there was a manager in post who was registered with CQC. During the assessment we identified areas of risk associated with monitoring and maintenance of the premises, care planning and management oversight. Where risks had been identified, actions had not been taken to keep people safe. Systems and processes were not robust enough to effectively monitor the quality of the service. The registered manager and the nominated individual were receptive to feedback and took action to address the issues during the assessment. We have identified breaches of regulation at this assessment in relation to safe care and treatment, premises and equipment and governance of the service. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found during this assessment.

People's experience of this service

People and their relatives were happy with the care and support at the service. However, our assessment found elements of care did not meet the expected standards of safety and person-centred care. People were supported in an environment where not all potential risks had been fully assessed. Although some shortfalls were identified in our assessment, people told us staff were kind and caring towards them, and feedback about the service from people and their relatives was positive.
