During an assessment under our new approach

Date of inspection: This inspection took place on 18 and 20 February 2025. We found 3 breaches of the regulations in relation to safe care and treatment, cleanliness and good governance. This was the services first inspection and was unannounced.

Harmonia Village provides support to older people many of whom live with dementia. The service is provided across six houses which are arranged on a ‘street’. There is also a main building, the hub, which includes a lounge area and dining area as well as toilet facilities. People spent time in the hub undertaking activities or eating meals.

There were some areas where the service needed to make improvements. For example, ensuring lessons from incidents were shared with all staff and care plans included a sufficient level of detail. Prior to the inspection there were some areas where more staffing was needed. However, this concern was addressed during the inspection. We identified some areas where cleanliness could have been improved.

There were systems in place to provide governance. However, these systems had not always led to the improvements needed and would benefit from review in some areas. The model of care provided was aimed at increasing independence. However, there were times when more flexibility had been needed to support people’s needs.

People were supported to receive their medicine on time. However, there were some areas where medicine management needed to be improved. These concerns were addressed during the inspection.

People were protected from the risk of abuse. The environment was managed safely to ensure risks such as fire safety were managed. People were supported to move into the service safely.

The service worked in partnership with other services to improve outcomes for people. The registered manager was accessible to staff and people. Where people raised concerns, action had been taken, and people and staff were listened to.

We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this inspection.
