Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 25 June 2025

We carried out this inspection to Eastfield on 30 July 2025. Eastfield is a care home providing personal care and accommodation for up to 43 people, some of whom have a health condition or are living with dementia. At our last inspection, we found breaches of regulations relating to safe care and treatment, safeguarding, staffing, the need for consent, person-centred care, dignity and respect and good governance at the service. We placed conditions on the provider’s registration meaning they could not admit anyone new to the service without the agreement of the Care Quality Commission. We also took additional enforcement action. This inspection was carried out to see if the service had improved in the way the provider had told us it had and that the provider was no longer in breach of these regulations. We found a marked changed in the service which had resulted in a positive impact on staff and an improved culture. Staff said they felt things had improved significantly since our last inspection. They told us they took more time in the way they cared for people and were more conscious of how they interacted with them. Staff told us how much they enjoyed working at the service and that they felt fully supported by management who were approachable, proactive and listened. We found sufficient staff on duty throughout our inspection which meant people did not have to wait for care. Staff had received the necessary training for the role resulting in a confident and competent workforce. Medicines practices were safe and staff worked closely with external health professionals to help ensure people received appropriate care from across various services when they needed it. Staff had undergone safeguarding training and put this training into practice. They demonstrated a good knowledge of which types of concerns needed reporting. Staff took time to get to know people and understood the need to obtain consent or make decisions in a person’s best interests should they lack capacity. This service has been in Special Measures since 18 October 2024. The provider demonstrated improvements have been made. The service is no longer rated as inadequate overall or in any of the key questions. Therefore, this service is no longer in Special Measures.

People's experience of the service

Updated 25 June 2025

People were happy living at Eastfield and this was echoed by their relatives. Without fail we heard how kind and attentive staff were and that nothing was too much trouble. People received the medicines and creams they required as well as sufficient food and drink to help them maintain a healthy lifestyle. People lived in a newly refurbished environment that was clean, well maintained and suitably adapted to assist people in orientating around the building. People were given equal opportunities to participate in activities or spend time how they wished. They were invited to give their ideas and suggestions towards the running of the service to improve their day to day experience of living at Eastfield. People and their relatives said they would be happy to raise any concerns with management and felt they would be listened to and the concerns acted upon. People were cared for by a sufficient number of staff who knew them well, recognised their individuality as well as their individual risks.
