Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 30 June 2025

Date of Assessment: 8 and 14 July 2025. The service is a residential care home providing support to adults over 65 years old, including people living with dementia. At the time of this assessment, there were 25 people living at the home. The provider was previously in breach of the legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment and good governance. Improvements were found at this assessment and the provider was no longer in breach of these regulations.

People told us they felt safe. We found risks to people’s care were well managed and relevant risk assessments were in place for risks linked to people’s care needs. However, we found examples where further work continued to be required to ensure people’s risks assessments were detailed in line with best practice guidance. The facilities and equipment met people’s needs and were clean and well-maintained.

Overall, medicines were safely managed, and people received their medication as required and in a safe manner. We found some areas continued to require improvement such as recording of creams and storage.

The provider had a good learning culture. People and relatives felt able to raise concerns. Accidents and incidents were recorded, investigated and patterns linked to falls were analysed.

There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications, and experience. Staff told us they felt well supported and enjoyed working at the home. Staff were recruited safely.

People received care that was centred around their needs and staff knew people well.

The management team had a good oversight of the service. However, we found examples wherethe effectiveness of quality assurance processes and compliance with the provider's own policies and procedures could be improved. The provider was receptive to this assessment’s findings and took appropriate action where areas for improvement were identified.

We spoke with 3 people using the service and 9 relatives about their experience of the care provided. We observed care in the communal areas to help us understand the experience of people living at the home. We used the Short Observational Framework for Assessment (SOFI). SOFI is a way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who cannot talk with us.

People told us they felt safe and enjoyed living at Newline Care Home. Relatives also shared positive feedback about the home and the care their loved ones received.

Feedback we received from people and relatives indicated staff were friendly and polite. In our observations, we saw kind and caring interactions between staff and people. A person told us, “I can have a joke with them [staff] which is great.”

Staff involved people in the care they were receiving and sought their consent. A relative told us, “I have never noticed the staff do anything without talking it through with my [person’s relative] first.” Relatives were able to visit the home and told us they felt welcomed. A relative said, “The place feels like home, we are all part of the family.”

People, relatives and other healthcare professionals told us they thought the home was well run, clean and friendly. We received positive feedback about the management team. A relative told us, “[Name of registered manager] knows her residents needs and always ensures that if there is anything that needs to be done or changed, she will make sure it is done.
