During a routine inspection

James Horrigan Court comprised 71 self-contained flats with their own letter boxes and door bells. People who lived in the flats were over 55 years of age and were able to receive a care package from staff based at the service following assessment by a social worker.

At the time we visited, twenty people were receiving a care service which ranged from one to four visits per day. People had full access to their care records which were kept in their flats. The care documents we looked at had been signed by the person who used the service.

People who received a care package were happy with the service and told us: 'The girls are wonderful', 'I couldn't fault them' and 'All the staff are lovely'. People's care plans clearly identified the support the person required and were reviewed every six months or sooner if a change to the person's needs was identified. A relative we spoke with told us 'Anytime we have had an issue it has been dealt with'.

We spoke with people who use the service and they told us they received good care and support from the staff. One person said 'The staff are very friendly and kind'. Care records were located in people's individual flats. We noted these included regularly reviewed assessments and care plans.

Activities were held on a regular basis, including coffee mornings, bingo and planned trips. People told us they could choose whether or not they joined in these activities.

Established and effective processes were in place for recruiting new staff, and for monitoring the quality and safety of the service. Staff said they were well supported in their role and had access to training and development opportunities.
