During a routine inspection
We saw that staff checked for people's consent to care that was provided. Where people lacked capacity to make a particular decision their family were included where possible and appropriate guidance followed.
We found that people received effective and safe care and support from staff that were familiar with people's individual needs and preferences. People were provided with a choice of suitable food and drinks. Health plans were in place, and where required, dietary advice had been taken to help maintain adequate nutrition and hydration levels. The service worked closely and effectively with other agencies and professionals.
The service was adequately maintained. We saw evidence that systems were in place to identify any maintenance requirements and that minor actions required by the Fire Safety office following their visit in April 2013 had been completed.
There were sufficient staff to meet the needs of people at the service. Staff said they were able to ensure people's needs were met and complete their other duties at the service. We saw that there were adequate procedures to deal with any complaints and people who used the service were aware of how to make a complaint. Each person had a guide to making a complaint in their bedrooms.
