Parkview care home provides accommodation and personal care to younger adults and people with mental health conditions. Not everyone living at Parkview was being supported with the regulated activity of personal care. We only comment on the care of people receiving personal care, as this is the regulated activity we assess.
A registered manager was in place, who was committed to the ongoing improvement of people’s experience and the support they receive. The registered manager acknowledged some areas of care delivery needed further development but had made significant progress in several areas including staff development and training compliance.
The provider had systems in place to assess people’s needs and the quality-of-care delivery, whilst we identified some shortfalls in the process of reviewing peoples care plans staff knew the needs of the people they were supporting who spoke about the positive outcomes they experienced.
Incidents, accidents and complaints were being recorded and investigated by the registered manager in line with the providers policy. People told us they were happy with their support, and had their choices respected and promoted by kind, caring staff who understood their needs and promoted their independence. Staff demonstrated a good knowledge of people’s rights to make their own choices, understanding the principles of the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) 2005 and promoting independence.
Staff had received training to fulfil their roles and develop the skills needed to support peoples’ specific conditions; this included the providers mandatory online courses alongside additional in person courses the registered manager had sourced which included managing people’s anxiety, learning disability awareness and supporting autistic people among others.
We observed staff treating people with dignity and respect, who were confident in their roles and described the leadership culture as open, in which they could raise concerns and believed action would be taken to address their concerns.
