All Inspections

19 June 2013

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we spoke to one person who received a service and four relatives. The person told us “I am happy with Appleberry Care, they come on time, treat me with respect and they meet my needs.” One relative told us “I am very satisfied with the level of support we receive from Appleberry Care.” Another relative said “The staff are really good, they get (X) what she wants and take her needs and requirements into consideration.” A third relative told us “I am completely and utterly happy with Appleberry Care. We have one regular staff and the care (X) receives is very good.”

We found that the provider had robust processes in place to ensure that the care and support provided for people had been appropriately assessed, delivered and reviewed.

We found people were cared for by staff who were supported to deliver care and support safely and to an appropriate standards. Staff told us they felt supported by the manager and described management as 'approachable' and said they operated an 'open door' system, where they were free to raise or discuss any issues or concerns they may have.

Records were kept of complaints received at the service and how they had been responded to. The people and relatives we spoke with did not have any complaints about the care they or their loved one received.

15 October 2012

During a routine inspection

We spoke with six people who either received care or were responsible for people who did. They were very positive about the standard of care received. "Really good and never let you down" and "Appleberry is brilliant" were two comments made. People told us the care provided was very flexible. They gave examples where the time of their visits had been varied to enable them to attend appointments. They told us care staff were very able. "They are professional and caring".

People told us they were involved in reviews of their care service and they had the opportunity to comment on their care at any time. We spoke with two local authority commissioners who used Appleberry Care to provide care to people they were responsible for. They said they were satisfied with the standard of care provided.

When we spoke with care staff they told us they had received training in safeguarding and knew what to do if they saw or suspected it. We saw training records that confirmed that training had been provided in safeguarding adults and children.

We found only people who were fit, appropriately qualified, physically and mentally able to do their job had been employed. This protected the safety and welfare of people receiving care.

We saw details of a 'Client Survey' carried out in September 2012. There had also been a survey carried out specifically for young adults and children. The results of these surveys had been analysed to identify where improvements could be made.
