All Inspections

4 October 2012

During a routine inspection

At the time of our visit there were nine people using the service. As part of our inspection we spoke with three people using the service, three people working at the service, and the relative of one person using the service. The people using the service told us they were happy living at the home. One person said, "It's a nice house. The staff keep it clean. Everything's done if you ask them." This person went on to comment, "I'm happy with everything." Another person using the service told us, "I love it. I have a good life. I can come to my bedroom whenever I like."

Staff we spoke to described being supported by management and told us that they enjoyed the environment that the home offered to the people using the service. One staff member said, "It's nice. It's easy as there are not too many people. Staff here are good and the people who live here. I don't have any complaints." One staff member did comment that, at times, they could benefit from more staff, commenting that, "There are times when we struggle." However, the people using the service we spoke with all felt that their needs were met by the staff working there.

We spoke with the relative of someone using the service who was complimentary about the staff working at the home and the level of care which was provided. The told us, "It is always lovely when I go in. He really does love it there."

During a routine inspection

We spoke to five service users and observed and engaged with three other servce users who had limited vocabulary skills. With the exception of one person, all service users either told us or indicated to us with smiles and gestures that they were happy at the home. The manager and a senior care worker told us that they were aware of reasons why one service user was unhappy and that there were plans to address this. Service users said that staff talk to them nicely. Service users also told us that they were involved in planning menus, that they enjoyed the food that was provided. Staff told us that they received supervision and training to be able to support service users. A support worker we spoke to told us that she had been supported to take a NVQ qualification. The manager told us about safeguarding training that was planned to be delivered in November 2011.
