Kindness, compassion and dignity
The service always treated people with kindness, compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. We observed staff to be kind, thoughtful and gentle with people. They respected people as individuals and gave them the time and space they required in supporting their needs.

Treating people as individuals
The service treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics. Staff were knowledgeable about people’s preferences, this included understanding people’s religious beliefs. During our assessment a person told us that their faith was really important to them. There were regular visits from a member of the local church to support people enjoy and follow their faith. Relatives said staff knew people at the service well. A relative said, “They are very much engaged with [person]. They obviously have taken time to get to know them.”
Independence, choice and control
The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.
Relatives told us that staff knew people well and respected their privacy. One relative said that staff knew each and every individual in the service.
People said that staff were kind and supported them. We observed staff encouraging people with choices of activities, allowing people to participate in activities which they enjoyed. For example, a person enjoyed spending time in their room doing art.
A relative told us, “[Person] is very into drawing and art. They supply [person] with all the art materials for them to pursue their hobby. Staff display the artwork around the Home.”
Responding to people’s immediate needs
The service listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress.
We observed staff regularly offering refreshments and supporting people’s needs with dignity and respect. We observed staff responding promptly to call bells which ensured people’s needs were met in a timely manner.
Workforce wellbeing and enablement
The service cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care.
All the staff we spoke to enjoyed working at Becket House Nursing Home and felt supported and valued in their roles.
Records showed staff received regular one to one supervision with a member of senior staff. This meant that staff were supported and given opportunity to discuss their learning and development.
Staff told us they felt well supported by the registered manager. A staff member said, “[Registered manager] is approachable and is very supportive to me.”
