During a routine inspection

During the inspection we spoke to one person who used the service and one relative. The person who used the service was unable to express their views about the home and service provided due to complex needs. We spoke to a relative who was very happy with the care and service provided. The relative informed us that as there were only a small number of people who used the service; people were receiving individual care and attention. We were told that staff were very welcoming.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

During the visit we spoke to two people who use the service, however they were unable to express their views about the home and service provided due to a variety of complex needs. We spoke to two relatives who expressed satisfaction with the care received. Relatives informed us that staff communicated well and kept them informed. We were told that a singer had been into the home recently which people that used the service had enjoyed.

On the afternoon of the inspection visit Inspectors sat in the main lounge area of the home. Staff were observed to interact well with people and treated them with respect.

During an inspection in response to concerns

During the visit we spoke to people who used the service and a relative. Comments included, 'Staff are there when I need them and helpful. I am warm and well cared for.' When asked about choice this person said, 'Can get up and go to bed when I like. I like to go to bed about 9:30pm. When I hear movement I get up I'm not one for lying in bed.' Another comment included, 'I would like to go outside but they are busy there are some nice grounds.' The relative spoken to during the visit said, 'We feel he/she is quite happy.'

It was difficult to seek the views of the home and care received from some people that used the service because they had dementia; however, in general people looked happy and content.

During an inspection in response to concerns

People living at the home, a visitor and staff working there were spoken to. People that use the service were complimentary and made positive comments about the staff. These comments included, 'It's very nice, the food is good, I have a nice room', I get well looked after.' A visitor of a person that uses the service said, 'We can visit at anytime, atmosphere, its not too bad, its improving. Seem to be more carers. Used to be all sorts going on, not now, no activities' and 'Staff are alright, well most of them anyway. Any problems I can tell the girls."

We spoke to two members of staff, one who had worked at the home for many years the other had just started working at the home. Both staff said that they were happy working at the home and that they had received lots of training. One staff member said, 'I love my job and I love Castle Court.'
