All Inspections

11 October 2013

During a routine inspection

We saw recorded evidence of the person's consent to the decisions that had been agreed around their care. The people we spoke to who were using the service confirmed that they had been involved in making decisions about their support plan.

We spoke with eight people who received support from the network to obtain their views on how well the staff members were providing safe and appropriate care. They all told us that they liked living in their houses and that the staff members supporting them were good.

The relationships we saw during the home visits were warm, dignified, respectful and with plenty of smiles and laughter.

Crewe and Nantwich Supported Living Network had a safeguarding policy in place. This included local procedures which staff would follow if they needed to report an alleged incident to the correct authorities. This was designed to ensure that any possible problems that arose were dealt with openly and people were protected from possible harm.

There was a consistent team of staff within the network and we did not have any concerns regarding either their numbers or suitability. The staff members we spoke to were very positive about the service. Comments included; 'I love my job' and 'I love my job, people are living their own lives.'

Information about the safety and quality of service provided was gathered on a continuous and ongoing basis with feedback from the people who used the service.

11 January 2013

During a routine inspection

When we carried out our unannounced visit we spoke to two people supported by the service in their own homes. They expressed satisfaction with the service and we saw that staff interacted with them in a warm but professional manner.

Staff were knowledgeable about their clients and when we looked at their records this information was in the files and developed into support plans. These plans were developed with the person being supported and took account of their wishes and their capacity to make decisions.

The provider had infection prevention and control measures in place appropriate to the service provided and had sought expert advice when necessary.

Recruitment of new staff was carried out in line with the Council's procedures and this was within the requirements of the regulations.

Complaints were handled in line with the Council's procedures but documentation was tailored to the people the service supported and staff acted to help their clients make complaints.

During a routine inspection

We spoke to a person who used the service who happened to be in the building when we visited. We asked about the service but they did not want to discuss this topic and the care staff protected this person by interpreting and explaining those wishes to the inspection team.

During our visit we spoke to eight people who were supported by the service although only one wanted to talk to us about the care that they received. This individual told us that they were looked after well and did not have any concerns. They told us that the service enabled them to continue to enjoy a particular leisure activity that they have taken part in throughout their life. They also told us that they would be able to talk to staff if anything worried them.
