Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 8 June to 11 June 2026

This inspection was completed to follow up previous enforcement action which had been taken following concerns identified at the last inspection. The provider was previously in breach of legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment, and good governance. Following this inspection, the provider was no longer in breach of these regulations.

At this inspection, we found the provider had worked hard to make and sustain significant improvements across the service. The changes made were extensive and included positive development to medicines management, fire safety, care planning, auditing systems, consent processes and staff training. The provider had reviewed and updated policies, invested in new digital systems, strengthened oversight arrangements and worked closely with staff, people living at the service, relatives and partner professionals to improve outcomes. It was clear from the inspection the management team and wider staff group had put considerable effort into responding to the concerns raised at the last inspection and driving improvement throughout the home.

People's experience of this service

People living at the service and their relatives were very positive about the care and support they received. People told us they felt safe, well cared for and comfortable living at Crown House Care Home. One person said, “Oh yes oh yes - I’ve been here 6 years so I’m very safe. The building is also very nice. It’s decorated nicely, I wouldn’t like to move.” People described the home as comfortable and homely, and 1 person said, “It’s so homely rather than anywhere else, we can do what we can and what we want, you are not forced to do anything if you don’t want to, and they put lots of things on for us.”

Relatives gave consistently positive feedback about the care their family members received. Comments included, “I have absolutely no problems whatsoever and they look after [relative] fantastically,” and, “I am very happy no concerns at all.” Relatives described the care as personalised and told us staff knew their family members well. One relative said, “[Relative] gets personalised care. The one good thing about the care home is that there are no agency staff whatsoever the staff have been there a long time and they know my [relative] very well.” Relatives also told us staff responded promptly when they raised concerns and kept them informed about important issues.

People and relatives also spoke positively about activities, meals and day-to-day life within the home. One relative described themed cinema nights and told us, “On cinema night, they put a big sign above the door calling it the Crown House Cinema and laid out a red carpet, it is it is shown in the sitting area, it’s on the television with subtitles for those who are hard of hearing, and the staff bring out popcorn in paper cups, it’s treated as an occasion.” Another comment was, “The catering is excellent. If you ask for a sandwich here, you get the crusts cut off, they make it look nice, food is such a big thing for [the people who live there].” Overall, people experienced a service where staff knew them well, supported their health needs and worked hard to provide a safe, welcoming and responsive home.
