All Inspections

During a routine inspection

In this report the registered manager appears who was not in post and not managing the regulated activities at the time of the inspection. Their name appears because they were still registered with the Care Quality Commission at the time. Two managers were job sharing and they were both in the process of applying for the position of registered manager for the service. The managers maintained very regular contact with the families and the children and younger people, and spoke enthusiastically about their roles and the service they provided.

We spoke with parents of children or young people who were receiving a service, comments received were very positive and one said that "the carers now are brilliant". We were told that the staff were very well trained by the service and given additional training by qualified staff from another agency who provided care and treatment for the children and young people.

The managers and staff spoken to were able to confirm how they obtained consent for care, and one member of staff said "the focus is the child, and we need to be flexible, if a child is unwell or wants to change the plan for a session, that is fine".

KIDS (South West) contracted with South Gloucestershire Council and was supported by it's Children's Health and Disability team (CHAD). Annual performance monitoring in the form of self assessment was undertaken, and continual feedback, training and guidance was received from the CHAD team.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with parents of those who received a service. A parent said the service was 'very helpful, X is much better' since they received support and 'it's a really good service'. Another said they would not be able to go out if it wasn't for the service they received. They described the support worker as 'an absolute darling'. They told us that communication was good and they knew to who they should complain if they felt the need. One parent said their child was reluctant to go out in the past but looked forward to meeting up with their supporter now.

We met the office staff who were enthusiastic about their role in the organisation and said they felt supported. They confirmed they had received training and completed e-learning in relevant subjects. One member of staff said 'the ethos of the service makes it good to work for Kids' and 'all staff shared the ethos'. They added that they 'aim for the service to be as good as it can be'.

Support workers also said they felt supported, had regular supervision and training. One worker said they 'feel equipped to support children and young people' and told us they had regular contact with their supervisor.

We contacted the commissioning authority's children and disability team (CHAD). They told us the level of service was very good. They described experienced support workers who were well trained and told us the service had recruited additional workers as it had not been able to meet some of it's commitments in the past.
