During an assessment under our new approach

Date of Assessment: 9 April to 13 May 2025. The service is a residential home providing support to older people and people living with a dementia. Medicines were managed safely. Risks to people were assessed and addressed. Staffing levels were monitored to ensure people received safe support. The provider supported staff with training and supervisions. The facilities and equipment met people’s needs, were clean and well-maintained and any risks mitigated.

People were involved in assessments of their needs. Staff worked effectively with other agencies to promote people’s health and wellbeing. People received effective support with eating and drinking. Staff made sure people understood their care and treatment to enable them to give informed consent. Staff involved those important to people and took decisions in people’s best interests where they did not have capacity to do so themselves. In some cases consent had not been recorded in people’s care records, but the registered manager was taking action to address this.

People were treated with kindness and compassion by staff who knew them well. People had choice in their care and were encouraged to maintain relationships with family and friends. The provider supported staff wellbeing and staff said they enjoyed working at the service.

People received personalised care based on their choices and needs. In some cases care plans did not reflect this, and the registered manager said these would be reviewed and updated. Staff provided information people could understand. People and relatives said their feedback was acted on. People were involved in planning their care and understood options around choosing to withdraw or not receive care.

Effective systems were in place to monitor and improve standards at the service. Staff felt supported in their roles and were encouraged to give feedback. Managers worked with the local community to deliver the best possible care and were receptive to new ideas. There was a culture of continuous improvement at the home.
