During a routine inspection

People told us that the service was meeting their needs and they were being treated with respect. They had agreed the support that they would receive and regularly talked to staff about any changes that they would like. Some people attended a 'service users' forum' which was held every two weeks. This gave people the opportunity to meet together and to talk about the service or other topics of their choice.

People received support which helped them to be independent in their own homes. When talking about the staff, one person commented "they help me to organise my life". Another person we spoke with appreciated the support that they received with financial matters.

We looked at three standards that were not being met at the last inspection. Action had been taken to make improvements in these areas. We saw, for example that a new format was being used for the support plans, which meant that there was better information about people's needs. We also found that there was a better system in place for monitoring the quality of the service.

During a routine inspection

People told us that staff helped them to manage their day to day affairs. One person for example said they appreciated the support they received with paying their bills and dealing with letters from the bank. We were told that staff gave advice to people about keeping safe and accessing health services.

People who used the service had a range of needs and received support which enabled them to live independently. Individual needs and risks to people's safety and wellbeing were assessed when they started using the service. We found however that support plans were not always being reviewed regularly and updated to reflect changes in people's needs.

One person commented 'we're all treated equally' when we asked them what the service did well. People said that they had good relationships with staff and were treated with respect. They benefited from staff who felt supported in their work, although we found that training for the staff team was not being well planned and lacked a co-ordinated approach.
