During a routine inspection

When we visited Universal Care Services Limited we spoke with the provider, the manager and five members of staff, two of whom were on their induction training week with the agency. We also spoke with two members of staff, four people who were using the service and four relatives by telephone.

People and relatives we spoke with told us that they were happy with the service being provided. Where relatives told us they had concerns, we were told that these would be raised directly with the service in the first instance. Comments made to us included, "Overall it's been really good", "I can't complain about anything" and "We've had a few teething troubles, but on the whole it's ok".

We saw that people had been assessed prior to using the agency and that care plans were in place. We found that the care plans contained information to assist staff with meeting people's care and support needs. We noted that care plans were reviewed on a regular basis.

We saw that the agency had robust systems in place for the recruitment of staff. All staff were provided with an induction to ensure that they were able to carry out their role effectively.

Systems were in place to ensure that confidential records were stored securely.
