During a routine inspection

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people using the service, because the people using the service had complex needs which meant they were not able to tell us their experiences. We spoke to relatives of two people and observed interactions between staff and people living at the home.

Before people received any care they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes. We spoke with three members of staff who demonstrated a good understanding of how people communicated. They were able to recognise if people were consenting to care, or refusing care and they respected people's views.

We contacted two relatives who were both very positive about the care and support provided by the service. One relative said the care was 'Very, very good' and their relative 'Had received superb support when they had been ill". Another relative said they were very happy with the care and commented that there relative's views were always respected. Both relatives said their family member considered Mimosa Lodge their home.

During our inspection, we spoke with three members of staff and they could all recall completing training in safeguarding vulnerable adults and demonstrated a good understanding of what this meant. Relatives were confident that people were safe from abuse at Mimosa Lodge.

We found that staff were supported to complete mandatory training and access courses to gain additional qualifications.

During a routine inspection

During the visit we spoke with four people who use the service. People told us that staff treated them well and said they were supported by staff to make decisions about their lives. One person said they were able to choose the activities they took part in and one person told us about a recent holiday they had been on, which they were involved in planning. During the visit we observed staff providing support to people in a sensitive way that maintained their privacy and dignity. Staff were friendly and respectful in their conversations with people. Staff took the time to respond to requests for assistance and to answer questions.

People said they received the care and support that they needed, in the way that they wanted it to be provided. Two people told us they were involved in the reviews of their support plan and were asked their views by staff. People said there were enough staff available to provide the support that they needed.

People who use the service, their representatives and staff were asked for their views about their care and support and they were acted on. People told us they were able to raise any concerns or problems with staff or the manager, who would help them to resolve the issue.
