Allendale Residential Home Limited

Allendale Residential Home Limited is a care home registered to support up to 24 people, many of whom were living with dementia. At the time of our assessment there were 21 people living at the service.

The provider operated safe recruitment processes and ensured sufficient staffing to meet people’s needs. People benefitted from a stable workforce. Staff confirmed they had enough time to complete their duties and felt supported by managers. They said they had access to the information required to support people effectively and spoke positively about their roles, the service, and the people they supported.

The service delivered person-centred and holistic care. Care plans included information about people’s interests, important relationships, and significant life events. This enabled staff to provide safe and appropriate support. Managers reviewed care plans and risk assessments monthly, or sooner where required, to ensure they accurately reflected people’s current needs and circumstances.

The provider maintained governance systems to monitor quality and safety. The registered manager completed regular audits and checks, analysed findings, and used these to identify themes and drive improvement. Managers sought feedback from people, relatives, and staff and used this information to enhance the service.

At the time of the assessment, the service had not made any recent safeguarding referrals. Managers demonstrated clear systems for reporting safeguarding concerns and a good understanding of their responsibilities. Staff received appropriate safeguarding training and understood how to recognise and escalate concerns.

The provider managed medicines safely. Staff received training in medicines administration and followed safe practices when supporting people with their medicines.

The service provided home-cooked meals. The cook spoke with each person daily to establish their preferences. Staff prepared and served food in line with people’s individual preferences and dietary needs.

People and their relatives spoke positively about the service and the care provided. People told us they felt safe, well cared for, and supported by kind and caring staff. They also spoke positively about the good quality of the food.

One person told us, “The girls (carers) are always looking out for me to make sure I am ok,” and “I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. I feel very safe living here. They are my family now.” Another person said, “Everybody is so nice to me. I hope I can stay living here because it’s really nice.”

Family members were overwhelmingly positive about the service. They spoke highly of the staff, managers, and the quality of care provided. All feedback received was positive and included, “I think Allendale is a wonderful place full of lovely people who really care for the residents. It has been an eyeopener to me. I am very grateful.” Another relative told us, “It has given me peace of mind to know that someone like (person) with such challenging health issues can still have a happy life in places like this.” A further comment included, “It is a small care home that is a family business; staffed by long-term employees who really care about those they care for and where money is not the focus.”
