Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 29 May to 11 June 2025. The service is a care at home service providing support to adults of all ages. People were supported with their personal care needs to enable them to live in their own homes and promote their independence. At the time of the inspection the service supported 60 people with personal care.

The provider was in breach of the legal regulation relating to the safe recruitment of staff and notifying CQC of incidents which had occurred.

Staff were generally recruited safely, where a shortfall was identified during our assessment, the provider took immediate action to rectify this and ensure all necessary pre-employment checks were subsequently completed. The provider had not ensured that the Care Quality Commission (CQC) had been notified of all incidents which had occurred. Once aware of the need to notify, these were submitted and showed appropriate action had been taken in respect of these concerns.

The service had a learning culture and people or family members could raise concerns. People were protected and kept safe. Staff understood and managed risks and medicines well. Staff worked with all agencies involved in people’s care for the best outcomes. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. Managers made sure staff received training and regular appraisals to maintain high-quality care. They monitored people’s health to support healthy living. Staff made sure people understood their care and treatment to enable them to give informed consent. People were involved in decisions about their care. Staff involved those important to people and took decisions in people’s best interests where they did not have capacity.

People were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff protected their privacy and dignity. They treated people as individuals and supported their preferences. People had choice in their care and were encouraged to maintain relationships with family and friends. Staff responded to people in a timely way.

Staff understood their roles and responsibilities and most were positive about working for MemoryJane Healthcare Limited. The provider and registered manager were actively involved in the day to day running of the service. Not all staff felt able to raise concerns with the management team or have confidence that action would be taken. People with protected characteristics felt supported. Managers worked with local community professionals to deliver the best possible care and were receptive to new ideas.

We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

People's experience of this service

People were overwhelmingly positive about the quality of their care. They felt safe and were fully involved in planning their care and understood their rights. People said they received high quality care from knowledgeable staff who treated them as individuals. One family member said, “All the carers treat [relative] in a respectful manner and they never rush them and let them take their time over things.” Several people described how staff treated them kindly and made sure any personal care was done sensitively, preserving their privacy and dignity. People felt able to complain and were confident action would be taken and improvements would be made. People knew staff and leaders well. A family member told us, “They [care staff and managers] are very easy to talk with and we all communicate well with each other. The carers are all fabulous and [relative] has regular carers and remembers most of their names. I cannot think of anything that needs improving at all. I’m so happy with them all and I would recommend them to anyone.”
