Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 11 March 2026

Date of inspection: 5 to 12 May 2026. Greenways Care Home is a residential care home for up to 27 people. At the time of our inspection there were 13 people living in the home.

We rated this service under our previous methodology in November 2018 where it was inspected and rated as good overall. This inspection was undertaken as an aged rating, and we reviewed all 5 key questions.

As part of our inspection, we spoke with people who lived in the home, a relative, staff and the registered manager. We sought feedback from healthcare professionals and reviewed care plans, medication records, recruitment files, audits and quality assurance records.

There was a small staff team who worked together to ensure people’s needs were met, the home was clean and home cooked meals were prepared. Staff demonstrated a commitment to the home, sharing roles and supporting each other.

Staff received ongoing training and were encouraged to take further qualifications to ensure they stayed refreshed in best practice and had an opportunity to develop their careers in social care. Staff understood their role in keeping people safe and reporting and recording any concerns they had about people’s safety within the home.

Overall, risks to people health and wellbeing were identified and plans implemented to inform staff practice in keeping people safe. However, some improvements were needed to ensure staff always had clarity around risk management strategies and records contained sufficient detail to demonstrate people’s needs were effectively monitored.

Staff worked collaboratively with doctors, nurses, therapists and social workers to ensure people received co-ordinated care for the best possible outcomes. People received their prescribed medicines, but some processes did not reflect best practice in safe medicines management.

The provider had systems in place to work in line with the principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA) and staff sought people’s consent before providing them with assistance. Staff understood the importance of advocating for people to ensure they experienced positive outcomes.

There was a system of checks and audits in place to assess the quality-of-service provision and staff described the registered manager as being available to provide guidance and support. However, there needed to be clearer delegation of roles and access to documentation when the registered manager was not there. The registered manager demonstrated a commitment to act on our feedback to ensure people consistently received good care.

People's experience of the service

Updated 11 March 2026

People found staff were kind, caring and thoughtful when providing their care and support and understanding of their personal preferences and routines. Staff were respectful of people’s independence and encouraged them to make their own day to day choices throughout the day. People felt safe with staff who they described as being available when they needed them.

People’s health was supported by staff who recognised when they needed to be referred to other healthcare professionals for advice and guidance. People’s communication needs were assessed, and staff took time to understand how they could best support people and meet their individual needs.
