People described staff as compassionate and supportive, with comments such as, “The carers are very respectful, caring and compassionate.” Staff we spoke with gave examples of how they respected people. Treating people as individuals

The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics.

Care records contained detailed and personalised information about each person’s preferences and routines. Feedback from staff and other healthcare professionals confirmed an individualised approach was fully embedded in the service’s culture and everyday practice. One staff member said, “I have a good relationship with the people I support. They treat me well and give positive feedback about the care I give.”

Independence, choice and control

Score: 2

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. However, improvements were needed in the way people were able to access their care records.

The feedback we received from people, and their relatives was generally positive about the care records and appointment times. Most told us their care plans were available and were regularly updated. One relative said, “There is a paper care plan available and also an App which is always updated.” However, a very small number were not as positive about their care records. One told us, “I don’t have any papers like a care plan, and I’ve never signed any care plan.” We communicated this information to the provider.

Staff knew people well and wanted good outcomes for them.People and the relatives we spoke with gave positive examples of where the service had been adaptive to meet their needs. An example included where the care staff had changed appointments as somebody wanted to watch a late sporting event. We were told this had a very positive impact on the person.
