All Inspections

14 November 2013

During a routine inspection

This inspection was part of our scheduled programme. We gave the service short notice that we would be visiting because of the nature of the service provided.

We spoke with the registered manager, the deputy manager, nurse therapists, people who used the service and ancillary staff.

People who used the service told us of their satisfaction with the service and the treatments they received. They told us that they had only been to the clinic on a couple of occasions but already felt more comfortable.

Staff told us and we saw in care records that the consent to treatment was always requested and gained before commencing treatment.

We saw that the clinic was clean, hygienic and well equipped.

Records that were needed to assess and monitor people's care and treatment were kept up to date, accurate and stored securely.

During a routine inspection

This inspection was part of our scheduled programme. We gave the service short notice that we would be visiting because of the nature of the service provided.

We spoke with the manager, staff and people at the clinic.

We saw systems and arrangements were in place to ensure that the privacy and dignity of people was fully upheld during their time at the clinic.

We saw that each person who used the service had a comprehensive plan of their care and treatment which was discussed with them. The plans were updated every time the person attended the clinic.

Systems were in place to protect people who used the service from harm, abuse and neglect. One person we spoke with told us they had no concerns with the service whatsoever.

We saw the service had a robust system in place for assessing and monitoring the quality of the service.

We looked at five key outcomes to establish whether people were involved and participated in the service they received; whether care was provided appropriately; whether the service could adequately ensure people's safety; whether there were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs and whether there was a system for ensuring ongoing quality assurance within the service.

Katharine House Clinic was compliant in these five outcome areas.

During a routine inspection

During the course of the inspection comments were received from several people who had visited the clinic, and people visiting at the time. We asked for their comments on the quality of the service and care given. There was a clear appreciation of the openness and clarity in the preparation and offering of treatment, one person visiting stated that 'They are really well organised, and friendly, I am always seen on time".

Overall people were satisfied with the care and treatment they were receiving in the clinic; they told us that they were treated with respect. One person told us that the staff were respectful and maintained her privacy and dignity at all times.

We examined written comments about the new service which presented a positive outcome and appreciation of a high standard of care, treatment and enhancement of the person's quality of life.

The majority of comments were positive, mainly concerning the friendliness of the staff and the high standards of care.
